"Hn?" you gasped softly in surprise as you walked into the library, and saw that there was a stranger sitting on your usual spot, a couch that was situated at the far back corner of the library, parallel to the fantasy fiction books shelf. It was meant for public use but being that where you lived was in a small town, everyone knew you and they knew that the couch was your place; no one really sat there besides you.

He looked different, being that he wore solid black; a long black hooded coat decorated with silver chains, black gloves, and black boots. He had bright aqua colored eyes, though only his left one was clearly visible, the right one being covered by his long, layered bangs. His steel-blue hair sported messy bangs that completely covered the right side of his face, reaching about an inch or two past his chin. On his left side, his bangs, though still rather long, were shorter than the right side, partially covering his ear. A few strands of hair fell over the exposed section of his face. The back of his hair was quite a bit shorter than the front. He held the thickest book you've ever seen in his hands and his intense ocean blue eyes scanned the pages with utter concentration, as if he was studying every single word presented to him.

You inhaled deeply and then walked further in the library as casually as you could, trying not to stare at the stranger. You could feel yourself becoming a bit unnerved as you approached the couch, and you felt your face grow a bit warm as you avoided any eye contact with the stranger. You set down your backpack next to the couch and you headed to the book shelves, selected a book, and then sat as far as you could from the stranger on the couch.

You tried to concentrate on your book but you just couldn't help but be distracted by the presence sitting at your right. It was strange…something about that guy felt weird…there was a sort of empty feeling about him, and the emptiness was swathed in darkness. You glanced at him from the corner of your eye and wondered about him. He really intrigued you, but you didn't really know why…

Suddenly, an hour or two later, something buzzed and vibrated in your pocket, making you and the stranger jump in surprise, breaking the trance you two were under by your books. You reached into your pocket, blushing with a pit in your stomach because you felt the stranger's eyes on you, and withdrew your cellphone, seeing a message left by your mother wondering why you weren't coming home. Sighing, you closed your book and you stood up, swinging your backpack onto your shoulders and placed the book you held back in its rightful place.

Before you walked away, you stole another glance at the stranger, and it just so happened that he looked up at you the same moment you looked at him, and your eyes met for a split second. You felt your heart leap at the sight of that incredible, mysterious blue eye (remember, only one is visible!) and found it hard to look away.

"What am I doing…?" you muttered to yourself, turning your head with a sharp jerk and quickly made your way out of the library with a hint of a blush across your cheeks.

For the next few days, it was always the same thing. The steel-blue haired guy would be in the same spot as always, reading, and you would head towards the couch to do the same. It became somewhat like a routine and you found yourself looking forward to seeing him. You knew each other in a way, but of course, you still didn't know each other's name.

On the sixth day, though, he surprised you. You were engrossed in a book, drowning out all of reality to submerge yourself in the story, when you suddenly felt something lightly brush your left cheek.

"Hm?" you turned your head to see what was the source of that, and nearly had a heart attack when you found that it was the blue-haired guy, leaning over the back of the couch to read over your shoulder. His face was so close to yours and the tickling sensation you felt came from his long bangs as they touched your cheek. "Kyahh!" you cried out in shock and the book you held flew out of your hands.

He seemed taken aback at first to your reaction but then he gave you a faint smirk. "You know, this is a library and you're supposed to keep quiet in here," he said, straightening himself. "Did I really scare you that much?"

Embarrassed, you bent to pick up your book and avoided his eyes as you said, "N-no…You just startled me…"

The blue-haired guy walked around the couch to sit beside you, but kept his distance. "What were you reading?"

You glanced at him from under your bangs and then looked back down at the book on your lap, blushing furiously. Never in your wildest dreams had you expected to actually speak to him. "Um…Fell by David Clement Davies," you managed to reply.

You looked up at him in surprise when he held out a black-gloved hand. "May I?" You blinked once, stunned, but then offered a shy smile and handed him your book.

You watched as he surveyed your book, looking at the cover, reading the back, and skimming the first few pages. You gazed thoughtfully at his eyes, and smiled a bit to yourself how beautiful they really were. He suddenly looked up, meeting your gaze, and you immediately turned your head away, feeling yourself blush once again.

"My, my, you're a shy one, aren't you?" he chuckled, handing back your book. Oh geez, you thought, he's right. Why am I acting so nervous around him?

"Haha…sorry…I just didn't think that you would, you know, talk to me," you said with a smile, looking at him once again.

"Any reason why I shouldn't?" the guy smirked. Then, suddenly, he tilted his head a bit to the side and frowned thoughtfully. "You know, I've never met anyone who likes reading as much as I do. It's rare, really."

"That's a good thing, right?" you grinned, slowly beginning to gain confidence. You never expected him to be so easy to talk to, it really amazed you.

"Of course it is. It shows that you have a brain, as opposed to most who would rather fry their minds on senseless things," his thoughtful expression never left his face, and I began to feel a bit self-conscious at the feeling of being studied. His expression brightened a bit as he said, "My name is Zexion, by the way."

You let out a soft giggle. "I'm ____." It's really nice to meet you, Zexion." You liked how his name sounded. It was unique and mysterious, just like he was.

"So, ____, I see you are a fan of fantasy. It's a rather interesting genre. Particularly that one," he said glancing at the book on your lap.

"Oh, well, yeah. It's my escape from reality, I guess…" you trailed off and smiled sadly. "It's fun to imagine you're somewhere else when you can't get away from worries and responsibilities here in the real world." You suddenly stopped and blushed, laughing nervously as you rubbed the back of your head. "Oh geez, I sound so ridiculous, don't I?"

Zexion frowned in surprise. "What? No, quite the contrary, actually. It's interesting to hear such a thing from someone like you…A girl who looks like any other, but holds intriguing thoughts. I'd like to hear more about that."

"Huh?" you felt absolutely stunned at this, and leaned back a bit when Zexion leaned forward eagerly with a calculating look on his face with a bent finger placed under his chin. You suddenly felt overtaken by shyness, and looked away. "Oh…well…The life I live is so repetitive. I wake up in the morning, I go to school, I go back home, I sleep, and it starts all over again. I hardly have anything going on in my life…It just makes it so hard to accept that this is my life. I need some excitement, some sort of adventure to make me think 'So this is what life really is' but so far…nothing. So, that's why I turn to books. They take you somewhere else, you know."

You chanced a look at Zexion, and he had that same analyzing look. "Is that how you feel? In there, in your heart?" You just stared at him for a second, wondering where he was going with this.

"That's right," you finally said. "Why do you ask?"

"I find the contents of the heart to be rather…interesting. Everyone experiences emotions differently. It's so strange how feelings can control one's actions," he replied casually. You tilted your head a bit to the side, thinking profoundly of what he meant.

"Wow…" you finally said. "I never really thought of it that way. That's a really interesting observation." Zexion seemed like such an intelligent person, you wondered to yourself just what he thought of everything else.

Zexion opened his mouth to speak but he was suddenly interrupted by the buzzing vibration of your cellphone. "Oh…sorry, that's my mother," you said, smiling apologetically. You felt your heart sink in disappointment. You wanted to speak more to Zexion, you wanted to get to know him better. You stood up and gathered your belongings. "You'll be here again tomorrow, right?" You hoped that you didn't sound too desperate.

Zexion smirked and stood up as well, then jerked his head so that his bangs swung to the side, revealing just a trace of his right eye. "Of course. I finally found someone to relate to so, why not?"

You grinned happily with your head slightly to the side. "Haha, you're right! Okay, well, see you tomorrow, Zexion!"

You left the library feeling lighter than air. Something about finally being able to speak to Zexion, that mystery guy that always piqued your interest the very first moment you saw him, made you feel extremely exhilarated.

For the next few days, you and Zexion would always meet up at the library. You two wouldn't talk much, but you would always read side by side, enjoying each other's peaceful company as you immersed yourselves in your books. Neither of you two noticed, but with each passing day, the gap between you on the couch slowly but gradually closed, up to the point that your thighs lightly touched. When you weren't reading, you talked, and found that you had the same points of view, the same pastimes, and the same interests. You two became somewhat like friends, though Zexion wasn't really open to you, but that never really bothered you. Although, just recently, you found that whenever Zexion would look at you or speak to you, your heart would skip a beat and you would blush a bit, having to "coincidentally" look away. You started to wonder…were you starting to…like Zexion…?

One night, you sat on top of the roof of your house, leaning against the chimney chute, your go-to spot when you wanted to be alone or when you needed to think, and stared up ponderingly at the jet-black sky and the diamond-like stars.

You sighed contentedly as your gaze shifted to the pearlescent full moon. You suddenly found yourself thinking about Zexion, and in your mind's eye, you saw the image of his face on the moon. You gasped softly to yourself and your hand flew to your heart, feeling it flutter from beneath your palm. You've never really liked anyone but then again, that bright, soft feeling you felt pulsing in your heart whenever you thought of him felt different than just "like". That was more like…

"This is such a strange place to watch the sky, isn't it?" a smooth, serene voice suddenly said from your left. You jumped and cried out in surprise, stumbling from your place on the roof and nearly fell in the process.

You looked up with a pounding heart, but then relaxed when you saw that it was Zexion, smirking down at you with his arms crossed. His face was softly illuminated by the moon and its silver light shone brilliantly on his blue hair. "Oh…Zexion, it's you. Geez, you scared me half to death!"

"I seem to be doing that a lot, don't I?" he chuckled softly as he crouched down to sit next to you on the roof. You scooted over a bit to give him some room, but not too much. You blushed a bit as you felt his leg touch yours, sending an invisible electric shock through you.

"No kidding. Honestly, it's like you're going through a ninja phase or something!" you said laughing, giving him a gentle, playful shove with your shoulder. You gasped in surprise as you heard a quiet yet sincere laugh come from Zexion, and you looked over at him. Your heart literally melted when you saw a sweet smile on his face.

"Now what makes you say that?" he turned his head to look at you, but then drew back a bit at the sight of your softened "aww" face. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"Huh?" you gasped, blushing furiously as you realized that you were caught staring at him. Your eyes glanced away anxiously, but then shyly met Zexion's bewildered eyes once again. "It's just that uh, you look really…nice when you smile." You were about to say "cute" but you hastily stopped yourself from doing so.

It was just for a brief second, but Zexion blushed and cleared his throat out of embarrassment. "Do I?" he smiled again. "Guess I should do it more often, huh?"

"Well, you wouldn't really be Zexion if you did but yeah…it would be nice," you inched a bit closer to him so that your shoulders touched, and Zexion cringed from that sudden contact, but he quickly relaxed and leaned against you a bit.

"Listen, ____, I have to tell you something," Zexion said suddenly from out of the still silence. You examined his face curiously, seeing that there was a look of indecision in his eyes.

"What is it?" you asked hesitantly.

"You…felt something strange about me the first time you saw me, am I right?" he glanced at you, searching for an answer in your expression.

You looked down at nothing in particular as you speculated his question. You never really thought about that until now. Now that he mentioned it, you felt that hollow darkness you sensed on Zexion that day in the library. That empty shadow inside Zexion seemed to try to hungrily pull itself toward you, ravenously searching you for something. "Yeah…I did," you replied, and looked over at Zexion, wondering where he was going with this.

"Yes, well, there's a reason for that. Come here, I want to show you something," he opened his arms to you. You just stared at him for a few seconds with wide, perplexed eyes, and felt your breath catch as your heart pounded vigorously. "It's okay…" Zexion's gentle voice reassured you, and slowly but surely, you leaned toward him.

Zexion's arms closed around you and the side of your face rested on his chest. "Listen closely…Do you hear anything?" You were quite shocked at being this close to Zexion, but you managed to push that aside and held your breath to sharpen your hearing.

You heard his even, rhythmic breathing but nothing more…Where was his heartbeat? You placed your hand flat on his chest, right where a heart should be, but didn't feel a pulse from beneath the palm of your hand. You frowned a bit and then sat up on Zexion's lap to look into his face.

"You didn't hear anything, right?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. You shook your head to answer. "That's because I'm a Nobody, a being that has no heart, yet I'm a hollow shell that has a will of its own. Many years ago, I lost my heart to the darkness, so I can't feel anything, not happiness, nor sadness, even though I really want to. So really, I'm just a pawn of the dark, wishing hopelessly to get my heart back."

You felt your own heart tug painfully at the wistful tone of his voice. You opened your mouth to speak, but then closed it with a soft, quiet sigh. What could you say to comfort someone who lost their heart to the darkness? So instead, you leaned your head against him again and consolingly hugged your arms around his fit, slim torso. You felt Zexion flinch in surprise at this, but he eventually melted against your touch and his hold on you became a bit tighter.

"Heart or not, that doesn't make a difference to me. I stayed with you before, I'll still stay with you now," you whispered gently. You looked up into Zexion's bewildered blue eyes and smiled. "I can't do anything about you not having a heart, I wish I could, but the best that I could do is share mine with you."

Zexion's eyes softened, swimming with the emotions of that shadow of a heart you knew he had, and a corner of his lips twitched up in a smile. "You sure do know how to uplift my spirits."

Before you knew it, Zexion's hand cradled the side of your face, and his thumb caressed your cheek lightly. A blush slowly deepened across your cheeks as you realized that the distance between you and Zexion was increasingly closing, up to the point that you could feel his breath on your lips. Your heart hammered rapidly against your ribcage and you hoped Zexion couldn't feel it.

Zexion suddenly pulled your face toward his and he leaned forward, crashing your lips together with his eyes slipping shut. Your eyes flew open and your delicate blush deepened to red. Zexion's lips moved against yours invitingly, encouraging you to do the same. You were uncertain at first, immobilized by shock, but then, you suddenly realized that you wanted this, so you twined your arms around Zexion's neck, tangling your fingers in the short hair at the back of his head, and kissed him back with your eyes drooping closed.

You and Zexion kissed slowly yet zealously, a kiss bursting with the emotions that you and Zexion had been holding back all this time. You felt the shadow of Zexion's heart as you did this, for behind that empty darkness, there was something warm and light, but just faintly. Suddenly, he quickened his pace and held you closer to deepen the kiss. You gasped against his lips at this, but then recovered, and kissed him at the same eager, passionate pace. Before long, he parted your lips with his tongue and you shivered as you felt your tongues slide against each other.

This was the one moment when you cursed having lungs, because you parted for air, panting, and looked into each other's eyes. Zexion pressed his forehead against yours and then whispered, "I love you, ____…I can barely feel it, it's hidden behind a dark wall, but it's there…I know it."

You felt your throat tighten at his words, and a single, happy tear slid down your face. "I love you too, Zexion…" Zexion wiped your tear away with a finger, stopping it at your cheek, and then kissed you again, giving off a silent message that he would never let you go, and that you would never let go of him.
